ARKLING / NOTE 001
Update your wardrobe. Don’t replace it.
First, look at what you already own. Then decide.

Maybe you don’t need something new. Maybe you need a new idea.
Sometimes the problem isn’t the garment.
There are many reasons we stop wearing something:

- It no longer fits the way I want.
- I’m tired of seeing it.
- It doesn’t fit my life now.
- I always style it the same way.
What the research says
A 2024 study found that reflecting on the clothes we own can help us understand our habits and set more deliberate goals for future purchases. Buying something new can also leave us bored with what we already have. Start by looking again.
Do a small wardrobe audit
Choose a few pieces you rarely wear and ask:
- FIT Does it fit how I want?
- LIFE Do I have occasions to wear it?
- STYLING Am I tired of the piece, or how I style it?
- FUNCTION Do I own several pieces that do the same job?
- ME Does it still feel like me?
Now decide
- KEEPYou wear it. It works. It stays.
- REDISCOVERYou like it, but need to see it differently.
- ALTERYou would wear it if the fit or a detail changed.
- REPLACEYou need the function, but this piece no longer serves it.
- RELEASEIt no longer works or feels like you.
And only then… what’s missing?
Don’t think only about garments. Think about the problem you want to solve. Work + informal dinner = ?

Try this
Buy nothing today.
Pick five pieces you hardly wear and place each in a category: KEEP, REDISCOVER, ALTER, REPLACE or RELEASE. If one lands in REDISCOVER, find new outfit inspiration before letting it go.
One last thing
Updating your wardrobe doesn’t mean keeping everything forever. Some things stop fitting, some stop feeling good, and some belong to another chapter. That’s okay. The point is to understand a little better before your next purchase.
